A/W Trends

Red Carpet Fashion

So silent film The Artist proved to be one of the winners at the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards, but there were also winners and losers on the red carpet. Kicking off the film awards season, The Golden Globes is THE first chance in the awards season for stars to shine and showcase their style credentials – and last night saw some truly stunning looks, with many opting for bright tones or ivory gowns.

We loved Angelina’s dress – adding her own unique style to the classic nude tone with flashes of scarlett. And the 40′s ruffle detail is bang on trend too.

Michelle Williams flew the flag for colour and neatly incorporated the velvet trend too…

To get the red carpet look on a more realistic budget, Coast – available at House of Fraser in Cabot Circus has some great show-stopping gowns like this ‘Savannah’ maxi dress, £195.

Monsoon also have some great styles, like this ‘Honeysuckle’ dress for £160. Glamorous yet won’t break the bank!

A/W Photoshoot

Autumn Winter Trend Report – 5 Key Pieces

So, autumn is officially here and we have been very excited to see all the new styles, textures and shapes hitting the shops. Our Fashion Weekender showcased the best of the new collections on the catwalk, and we’ve compiled our favourite 5 key trends that promise to freshen up your wardrobe for the months that lie ahead.

1. Aviator Jackets

Leather and sheepskin aviator jackets are certainly flying high this season – a new take on the leather trend seen over the past few winters but with added cosiness and style points. An essential on-trend winter item that will only get better with age. Here’s our pick of the best to inspire you.

Aviator biker, £59.99, River Island (level 1, Cabot Circus)

Sleeveless sheepskin gillet, £195, Topshop (level 1, Cabot Circus)

Brown suede jacket, £80, Linea @ House of Fraser (level 1-3, Cabot Circus)

Aviator jacket, £75, Next (level 1, Cabot Circus)

2. The Cape

The cape coat is another huge trend seen all over the catwalks for the A/W season. On-trend and comfortable, the cape comes in a variety of styles, cuts and colours and can look stylish on everyone. Balance out the trend by keeping a lean silhouette underneath, with skinny jeans, leggings or tights with boots.

Here are our top picks – we love the example from Reiss which brings together the current cape and camel trends.

Camel Cape, Reiss, £195 (Quakers Friars)

Cape parka, Miss Selfridge @ House of Fraser £42 (level 3, House of Fraser)

Crusade cape, £150, French Connection (Quakers Friars)

3. Mad Men

Everyone is talking about the Mad Men styling this year and the programme has been credited with returning curves to the catwalk.  Harvey Nichols dedicated a scene to the look in their fabulous show at our Fashion Weekender – including the Alexander McQueen piece below – which showed gorgeous shift dresses and tailored styles that cinch in the waist, which are great for flattering curves. Look out for extra detail like ruffles for added interest.

Alexander McQueen dress, £795, Harvey Nichols (Quakers Friars)

French Connection wool blend textured dress, £95 (Quakers Friars)

Vintage inspired heels, £90, Kurt Geiger (Quakers Friars)

Gemma dress, £65, Monsoon (level 1, Cabot Circus)

4. Glam Goth

Black is back this year with a vengeance – and the new take on the classic look is about texture. Think lace or ruched detail, or add a luxurious touch with velvet. Whilst the ‘underwear as outerwear’ look may not translate easily into real life, adding a touch of lace is a great way to nod to the trend. Release your inner vamp!

Lace pocket cupro skirt, Topshop, £38 (level 1, Cabot Circus)

‘Immortal’ dress £145, All Saints (Quakers Friars)

Ruffle Bolero Jacket, £60, Warehouse (level1, Cabot Circus)

Ring, £142, Swarovski (level 2, Cabot Circus)

5. Wild Things

Animal prints continue to be a major trend and there are some beautiful pieces in the shops. As with any statement trend, the golden rule is to use it sparingly – keep to one item of clothing to avoid looking like Bet Lynch!  Another great way to rock this trend is to accessorise, adding an animal scarf, gloves, tights or bag to an otherwise plain outfit. Another golden rule is to choose quality fabrics, to avoid looking tacky.

Printed draped asymmetric skirt, £110, Reiss (Quakers Friars)

Scarf, £20, Oasis (level 2, Cabot Circus)

Dress, £24.99, H&M (level 1, Cabot Circus)

Cut off gloves, £12, Accessorize (level 1, Cabot Circus)
