So silent film The Artist proved to be one of the winners at the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards, but there were also winners and losers on the red carpet. Kicking off the film awards season, The Golden Globes is THE first chance in the awards season for stars to shine and showcase their style credentials – and last night saw some truly stunning looks, with many opting for bright tones or ivory gowns.
We loved Angelina’s dress – adding her own unique style to the classic nude tone with flashes of scarlett. And the 40′s ruffle detail is bang on trend too.
Monsoon also have some great styles, like this ‘Honeysuckle’ dress for £160. Glamorous yet won’t break the bank!

To give you a taste of what is to come on the catwalk, here are some of the key trends hitting the shops now for the autumn/winter season:
Ladies it’s time to don your barber jackets, riding boots and cable knits, and embrace the great outdoors… heritage chic is back for autumn winter 2011.
What to wear: Tweed, tartan and herringbone
Where to wear: Weekend in the countryside
Thanks to celebrities like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, corsets and leather are at the height of fashion and will be hitting the shops this season.

3. Boy/girl look
Sick of summer dresses and light floral patterns? If so the ‘borrowed from the boys’ look is one for you this season. The more structured fabrics and cuts will be perfect for the colder weather, and this look is a sure way to be taken seriously and command attention.
What to wear: Oversized blazers, ankle grazing trouser and loafers
Where to wear: Shopping or in the office
Get the look: shirt, £28, cerise trousers, £38, shoes, £55, Topshop
4. Swinging sixties
The sixties look is going to be huge this season, from graphic printed shifts to jewel coloured tunics and mod coats. All you need now is big hair and a scooter.
Get the look: Dress, £70, leopard clutch, £45, leather gloves, £28, Warehouse
5. Jewel box colours
This summer we saw an explosion of colour enter our wardrobes and as we approach autumn there are no signs of this fading. With fushia, orange, emerald, colbolt and purple leading the colour parade, you will not fail to stand out this winter.
What to wear: Rock a block colour dress, contrast with brights heels to accentuate a plain outfit, or easiest of all, throw on a coat in a bright shade
Where to wear: Christmas party or to work
The Christmas party season is almost here and if you’re anything like us, you’ll be searching for the perfect party dress this weekend! Here’s some festive fashion inspiration that will carry you through the party season in style…
Celebrate Bonfire Night in style this weekend and ward off the cold by wrapping yourself up in chunky knits, gorgeous gloves and fake fur! Here’s our pick of the best hats, scarfs and gloves guaranteed to keep you toasty warm.
Suited and Booted
Winter boots have had a seriously cool make-over this season – and we love this sheepskin style. Comfortable, snuggly and bang on trend, just ease into these leather boots from Office – perfect for keeping you warm and stylish on Halloween and Bonfire Night!
The launch of a Kate Moss collection is always a highlight, but this time the style icon has cast her net wider with seventies-inspired pieces and a vintage-style jewellery range!
Relax with a glass of Harvey Nichols champagne in one hand, whilst their nail technicians work their magic on the other at the Champagne Nail Bar – bliss.
For the ultimate in luxury, indulge in a crystal pedicure using Swarovski elements – already a celeb favourite!
Bristol fashionistas came in their thousands to our Fashion Weekender at the end of September – starring everyone’s favourite style guru Gok Wan! The weekend saw seven catwalk shows over two days, featuring the hottest new season trends and the pick of the new collections. We loved Reiss’s stunning scene with lots of black and gold, Urban Outfitters’ retro cool look, winter warmers by Jane Norman and not forgetting the House of Fraser and Harvey Nichols shows. And of course Gok whipping up the crowd into a frenzy!
1. Aviator Jackets
Leather and sheepskin aviator jackets are certainly flying high this season – a new take on the leather trend seen over the past few winters but with added cosiness and style points. An essential on-trend winter item that will only get better with age. Here’s our pick of the best to inspire you.
2. The Cape
The cape coat is another huge trend seen all over the catwalks for the A/W season. On-trend and comfortable, the cape comes in a variety of styles, cuts and colours and can look stylish on everyone. Balance out the trend by keeping a lean silhouette underneath, with skinny jeans, leggings or tights with boots.
Here are our top picks – we love the example from Reiss which brings together the current cape and camel trends.
3. Mad Men
Everyone is talking about the Mad Men styling this year and the programme has been credited with returning curves to the catwalk. Harvey Nichols dedicated a scene to the look in their fabulous show at our Fashion Weekender – including the Alexander McQueen piece below – which showed gorgeous shift dresses and tailored styles that cinch in the waist, which are great for flattering curves. Look out for extra detail like ruffles for added interest.
4. Glam Goth
Black is back this year with a vengeance – and the new take on the classic look is about texture. Think lace or ruched detail, or add a luxurious touch with velvet. Whilst the ‘underwear as outerwear’ look may not translate easily into real life, adding a touch of lace is a great way to nod to the trend. Release your inner vamp!
5. Wild Things
Animal prints continue to be a major trend and there are some beautiful pieces in the shops. As with any statement trend, the golden rule is to use it sparingly – keep to one item of clothing to avoid looking like Bet Lynch! Another great way to rock this trend is to accessorise, adding an animal scarf, gloves, tights or bag to an otherwise plain outfit. Another golden rule is to choose quality fabrics, to avoid looking tacky.
